Import Export Code (IEC) Registration in India: A Gateway to Global Trade

The Import Export Code (IEC) is a mandatory 10-digit identification number issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. 

It is essential for any individual or business entity engaging in import or export activities in India. Without an IEC, customs clearance and international financial transactions are not legally permitted.

 Who Needs IEC?

IEC registration is required for:

• Proprietorships, partnerships, LLPs, and companies involved in import/export
• E-commerce exporters (Amazon, Etsy, etc.)
• MSMEs and startups entering global markets
• Service exporters availing benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy

How to Register for IEC Online

1. Visit DGFT Website
   Register as a user using PAN and Aadhaar authentication.

2. Apply for IEC
   Navigate to Services > IEC Profile Management > Apply for IEC.

3. Fill Application Form (ANF-2A)
   Provide business details, bank account info, and address.

4. Upload Documents
   Ensure clarity and correct format (PDF/JPEG).

5. Pay Government Fee
   ₹500 via Netbanking, UPI, or credit/debit card.

6. Download IEC Certificate
   Once approved (typically within 1–3 working days), the certificate is emailed in PDF format.

• Aadhaar, passport, or voter ID (for individuals)
• Business address proof (utility bill, rent agreement)
• Cancelled cheque or bank certificate
• Certificate of incorporation (for companies)
• Partnership deed or LLP agreement (if applicable)
